Festival of Peace
Saturday 10th November 2018
On Remembrance Sunday weekend this year we remember the centenary of the end of the First World War. After such a terrible conflict, thoughts were of peace and how to make a better world out of the ashes of war. Our Festival asks the question, What kind of World…?

10am–1pm
at Morningside Parish Church, Braid Road/Cluny Gardens
- Coffee Morning – in support of Poppyscotland (all morning)
- Art and Poetry Display from South Morningside Primary School, Buckstone Primary School, and the Royal Blind School (all morning)
- Morningside and World War One – historical display by Morningside Heritage Association (all morning)
- Music from George Watson’s College (10.30am–11am)
- What kind of World…? A panel discussion with young adultsfrom the Church of Scotland National Youth Assembly (11.30am)
2pm–2.15pm
at Morningside Cemetery, Morningside Drive
Community Remembrance Service at the Cross of Sacrifice
4.30pm–5.45pm
at Greenbank Parish Church, Braidburn Terrace
Two of Scotland’s finest musicians, violinist and fiddler Alastair Savage and cellist Tom Rathbone, present a concert inspired by remembering the world wars. Expect catchy folk tunes, serene classical, and vibrant new folk music written by Alastair. Free admission, with a retiring collection shared between the musicians and Poppyscotland.
